PTE Academic Question Bank
PTE is scored by machine, and that makes it unusually learnable: the things it measures — intelligibility, pace, whether you completed the task — are consistent and practisable. The bank is organised by task type, because that is how the scoring is organised.
Why practise by task type
- PTE has around twenty distinct task types, and most students lose marks in two or three of them. Practising the whole test repeatedly to reach those is slow.
- Because tasks are integrated, one task type can feed two skill scores. Knowing which ones do changes where your hours should go.
- Automated scoring rewards specific, trainable behaviours — steady pace, no self-correction, directly completing the prompt — and each task type rewards them differently.
- Repetition on a single task type is what builds the automatic fluency the scoring measures.

Question bank FAQs
- Which task types matter most?
- Write from Dictation and Read Aloud carry weight out of proportion to their length, because both feed more than one skill score. If you are short of time, they are where to start.
- Can I practise speaking tasks?
- Yes. Speaking task types are included with guidance on what the automated scoring measures — pace, clarity and completing the prompt — which is what separates a strong response from a fluent one that scores poorly.
- Why is my Listening score affected by speaking tasks?
- Because many PTE tasks are integrated: a spoken response to something you listened to contributes to both scores. It is the most common surprise in PTE score reports, and it is why practising by task type rather than by skill is the more useful approach.
- Does it help with the essay?
- Yes. Write Essay and Summarize Written Text are both included, with guidance on the structure the scoring rewards. On PTE that structure is more mechanical than on IELTS or TOEFL, which makes it quicker to learn.
