The current UCAT format
The UCAT has four subtests: Verbal Reasoning (44 questions), Decision Making (35), Quantitative Reasoning (36) and Situational Judgement (69), in just under two hours. The three cognitive subtests are each scored 300–900 (900–2700 in total); Situational Judgement is reported in Bands 1–4. Abstract Reasoning was removed from 2025.

How UCAT scores work
- Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning are each scored 300–900, for a total of 900–2700.
- Situational Judgement is reported separately, in Bands 1–4.
- There is no negative marking, so answer every question — flag and guess rather than leave a blank.
- Abstract Reasoning was removed from 2025, so older totals out of 3600 are not comparable with current scores.
Mistakes that cost marks
- Refusing to move on from a question. At this pace, recognizing a lost cause within seconds is worth more than any single technique.
- Practicing subtests one at a time and never sitting the whole test in one go.
- Treating Situational Judgement as guesswork. It rewards reasoning from professional principles — patient safety, honesty, working within your competence.
- Practicing with pre-2025 material that still includes Abstract Reasoning.

Learn each subtest's format and the techniques it rewards. Accuracy untimed first, briefly.

Timed subtest drills, short and frequent, because the skill being built is speed of decision.

Full timed practice twice a week, reviewing where time was lost as well as which answers were wrong.
